CHAPTER 25

A signal changing from red to green
I'm in the middle of a journey that I can't turn back from
I want to go forward believing in tomorrow
Run! Run! Reach out for your dream

Yell! Yell! To the limits of your voice
As we feel it in our heart

Everything

Masaki shivered when he felt the plump lips kissing the space between his shoulder and neck. The shiver ran down his spine and every extremity of his body, releasing in more than just a physical frenzy, it was almost mystical. His nails clawed the rigid back of his partner, marking the white skin. In response, he heard his name being said in a seductive and erotic tone before that mouth traveled sinuously until his lips, taking it into a hungry kiss. As hungry as the continuous movement of his hips against his.

The sound of their skins in attrition and of their loud and unrestrained moans echoing around the bedroom just weren’t more intense than the sensation of surrender, complete and mutual, from the bodies entangled in a sensual and desperate dance.

The orthopedist enveloped his partner in a tight hug before biting the man’s shoulder and releasing the product of his joy in the almost nonexistent space between their bodies.

He opened his eyes, teary with pleasure and guilt and looked at his partner. There was no doubt: he loved him.

He pulled him into another kiss and felt him panting with desire and passion. It didn’t take long for him to sense the man’s lower belly contracting against his.

— I love you, Masaki — the dark-haired man assured him, with a raspy voice, seconds after filling him with his pleasure. He moved for a while longer before falling over his chest, gasping for air.

Masaki smiled and caressed those scented hair.

— I love you too.

His lover’s lips touched his sweaty skin in a tender kiss. His body was still between his legs.

— Will you tell me what got into you today?

— Why? Didn’t you enjoy it?

A slim finger ran over his still gasping thorax, tracing a random pattern on it.

— If I have enjoyed it? Let me see... — Jun pretended to consider it. — I came to bed early because my boyfriend had exchanged me for his best friend. Then, in the middle of my lonely sleep, he shows up on fire, imposing me his gorgeous and sexy body and letting me do anything I wanted to him… Well… I think I have enjoyed that — he smiled, at the same time he brought Masaki’s hands to his lips. — I confess I was surprised, though. I thought that something might have happened.

Masaki kissed the top of his boyfriend’s head.

— Nothing happened; I only missed my boyfriend… I felt a sudden urge to see you, to touch you, to feel you inside me…

Jun stared at him, his eyes still glimmering with desire, but also in a plea.

— I know we have decided to go slowly, but… — the guitar player hesitated. — You wouldn’t have to drive here in the middle of the night if we…

— We have already discussed it — Masaki cut his speech, caressing Jun’s body fondly. — We are fine like this. I like the idea of longing for you, of waiting anxiously for the moment you will arrive in my apartment, seeing the approval of my outfit in your eyes or wonder if you will enjoy the dinner I have prepared. In the same way, I like the anxiety I feel when I come here, the way you do everything for me to feel comfortable. We don’t need to rush things…

— I know, — Jun tightened his arms around him — but I can’t resist the idea of having you by my side all the time.

— But you have me, Jun. We are always together.

The musician sighed, without hiding the disappointment in his eyes, but didn’t insist.

— I promise I will reconsider this idea in the future — Masaki softened his words. — For now, though... I would rather let things the way they are, besides… Nino will be moving in to my apartment next week. I can’t leave him alone. He needs someone to assist him, at least in these first months…

— You are right — Jun finally agreed. — Nino is going to need your support.

— And yours, as well. Thank you for visiting him. He told me you appreciated his lyrics.

— They are fantastic! — Jun told him, excited. — He has a huge talent for writing! It is a waste that he haven’t explored it until now.

— Maybe he only hadn’t found the right person to guide him.

— I will do whatever it takes to help you, Masaki. I have faced the same difficulties as him and, even though I had the conscience that my recovery depended mainly on me, I wouldn’t have gone too far if I didn’t have help.

— Talking about help — Masaki smiled —, I think I could use a helping hand in bath...

— Oh... my boyfriend is really insatiable today... — the musician captured his lips once again. — Go ahead. I will only change these bedsheets. We really made a mess here…

Masaki stretched his body before standing up.

— Don’t take long... — he asked him, walking to the bathroom with lazy steps.

As soon he entered the shower, he closed his eyes, in order to enjoy the hot and abundant water jet. On his body, he could still feel the effects of Jun’s actions and the intense way he had absorbed each of them.

However, he couldn’t deny that, even though he had sincerely surrendered himself to his boyfriend, he was still unable to forget how his heart had beaten and his body had surrendered to the confession and the taste of his best friend’s kiss.

****************************************

— Sho-chan... The velvety voice called him in his sleep. Sho, however, didn’t answer immediately, enjoying the sensation of having his name being called in that affectionate and intimate way.

A pleasurable feeling overpowered him as soon as he felt soft and careful fingers caressing his hair and, unable to resist it anymore, he opened his eyes, staring at the beautiful man under him. He shivered slightly at the contact, at the intimate way in which their legs were positioned, in a perfect fit.

— Yoh, Masaki... — he smiled, his voice still a little groggy from the alcohol.

— Go to sleep in your bed... you are drunk. You shall rest — the man insisted.

Bed...

The word reverberated in his head, sounding so good. Yes, that would be a much better place for them to cuddle, instead of the couch.

He stared at the perfect face, wishing never to wake up from that dream.

— Do you really believe I should confess to the man I love? — he asked his friend, curious.

— I do — the answer was immediate and he sighed. He would never do it, if that was reality, but there, in that delicious dream, he could confess whatever he wanted.

He caressed the face of the man he loved since the first time he laid his eyes on him, paying for his lunch at the university.

— I love you — his words came, finally, in a steady tone.

Masaki smiled.

— I love you too, senpai — the answer was playful and he couldn’t leave space for doubts.

— No... I really love you — he repeated and, without waiting for any reaction, he attacked Masaki’s lips in a desperate kiss.

It took a moment for the man to react:

— Sho-chan... Please, wait...

— I don’t want to — he insisted, lost in his reverie. — I have waited six years for this... I can’t handle it anymore, Masaki. I love you so much…

His lips once again covered the mouth that he had desired for so long. He forced his body against the one underneath him, compelled by Masaki’s slim hands pulling him closer, possessing his mouth, thirsty and passionately.

The time could have stopped there, in the middle of the frantic beats of his heart, in the middle of the sensations he would never be able to turn into words.

— Masaki… — he moaned, before kissing his scented neck.

Then, he raised the orthopedist’s t-shirt until his nipples and guided his mouth to the fit belly, teasing the area with his tongue at the same time his hands were working on his partner’s jeans.

— Sho-chan… please, stop it…

The request, along with the shiver of the body underneath his, made him gasp for air and he halted, shocked when he was confronted with that moment, between dream and reality.

— Masaki… — he whispered, confused. — I…

— I’m so sorry, Sho-chan… I can’t…

He searched for the equally teary eyes, his chest burning with guilty and embarrassment.

— Please, forgive me… — he kneeled down, unable to explain himself.

— I must go… — Masaki said, standing up in a rush. With shaky fingers, he pulled his zipper up and closed the button of his pants.

— Masaki… — he still tried to make some kind of apology, but the words escaped him. Instead of them, the sobs came, one by one, merciless and excruciating.

Sho moaned softly when he massaged his pulsing temples. The physical pain only weren’t bigger than the one that hammered, overwhelmingly, his whole heart. However, he almost smiled when he opened his eyes and faced his best friend watching over him, lovingly.

— You are finally awake — Satoshi’s fingers slid over his head, playing with a lock of his hair. The contact made Sho feel safe and loved and he was unable to prevent the tears from falling, once again.

— Why are you still here? — he asked him, wiping his face. — Shouldn’t you be working?

— I told them I would be late today.

— I’m so sorry, Satoshi. I should never have called you that late, but… I needed you.

— I’m glad you have called me. How many nights did you come to help me in my panic attacks or when I was crying over Nino? — he squeezed his friend's shoulders, in recognition. — I would be sad if you wouldn’t trust me to do the same. Now, will you tell me what happened? — he asked, in concern.

All that Sho had done the night before was crying silently on his lap, without saying a word. Respecting his friend’s pain, he just stood there, supporting him with his presence.

— Has something happened between you and Maeda-san?

— No, this has nothing to do with him. I… — the psychologist hesitated. — I confessed to Masaki that I love him.

— You confessed? And what happened? — the officer asked him; between worried and curious, although, considering his friend’s state, he could imagine that the result hadn’t been a positive one.

— I kissed him. And he kissed me back at first, but...

Sho closed his eyes, in an attempt to erase the happenings of the night before. However, the memories insisted in haunting him, as if punishing him for his mistake.

— We had an amazing day with Aya-chan at the Aquarium — he sit on the bed, accepting the glass of water his friend offered him. — Then, when he brought me back home, I invited him to come upstairs. We had a few beers and some doses of sake, as well. Masaki told me I should confess… I thought it was a dream, I… I told him I loved him.

— Aiba-kun rejected you?

— He ran away from me… — he threw himself back in bed. — I’ve ruined everything… He will never talk to me again… — he passed a hand through his hair, in desperation. — What have I done, Satoshi?

— You just said what you had been keeping inside for too long. It would happen, sooner or late…

— I attacked him! — he curled his body in a fetal position. — God! He has a boyfriend! How could I...

— Don’t be like that, Sho. Aiba-kun mostly likely is confused about all this. He will understand it, though. He just need a bit of time to process things…

— He might be hating me...

Satoshi sighed, pulling his friend into a comforting embrace.

— This will never happen. Aiba-kun loves you...

— Do you think so? Do you believe we can regain what we had before?

— I am sure of it — Ohno smiled. — Now, get off this bed and go take a shower. I will make us something to eat.

Sho sank back in the bed.

— I don’t want to… I have no more reasons to live…

— Don’t be a drama queen, Sho! — Ohno scolded him. — You are not the first neither the last person to be rejected after a confession. Besides, you don’t even know if that is the case. Come on… get up.

Sho snuffled, but did what his friend said, his heart broken in a million pieces.

Nino closed his eyes, as soon as he arrived at the apartment. His heart was racing in satisfaction and pride for his new perspective and for the extra pounds he had put on, during the time he had been in the clinic. However, he was also nervous and unsure. He was a new Ninomiya Kazunari, undoubtedly, a healthier and more determined one. Nonetheless, he would be lying if said he was completely fine.

It had been two weeks since he had left the clinic and moved into Masaki’s apartment. In his first days there, he couldn’t sleep. He barely moved, afraid of ruining what he had conquered. It was only on his fifth day that, by the insistence of his friend, he accepted to follow him to a nearby konbini.

He would rather stay at the quietness and safety of the apartment, free of any temptation or surprise. He was not afraid of bumping into Satoshi. He had asked him, through Sho, to wait for him. When he was ready, he would go after him. He wanted to do so with his own steps, having something to offer him. And he was almost there.

For the first time, he had the chance to fulfill a dream he had since his teens – working with music. Not selling CDs in a music store, though.

He wanted to make his own songs. Maou had already told him that he had talent and Jun confirmed it, creating a melody to one of his lyrics.

It had been one of the most surreal moments in his life when Raiden entered in his bedroom, three days after their first meeting, with his notebook under an arm and an acoustic guitar. Without ado, he sat down at the couch next his bed and started fingering the instrument skillfully.

The melody was already amazing on its own, as expected of the guitar player. However, when he started singing his words in a shrill and tuned voice, he felt his already damaged legs losing its strength, his heart beating fast, hallucinated. Not for having his thoughts exposed, but for finally feeling himself free.

In the end of his presentation, Jun gave him the guitar as a gift, telling him to do a good job with the other lyrics.

He had been working on it since.

He was still mastering it, learning with Jun’s experience, but it was already a start.

His rebirth.

That afternoon, when trying to compose a melody, his heart burned. He had written that song in the day he met Satoshi and the wish to see him was bigger than any unsureness.

However…

Now that he was there, he wasn’t sure if he should have gone.

He hesitated for a few minutes and finally turned the key in its hole.

He adjusted his hands in the crutches and entered.

Everything was silent, as expected. That hour, Satoshi should be working.

He glanced around the room and his eyes teared, thrilled. Nothing had changed since his last memory there. The day he left, leaving Satoshi and Niji behind.

Niji...

The tortoise was resting against the sofa. He couldn’t avoid his tears.

— Princess... — he mumbled, taking up his great companion in his arms and covering its shell with kisses. He sat on the sofa and didn’t even try to hide his tears.

— Nino!

The voice made his heart skip a bit and he barely had the strength to face the man he loved so much, standing at the door with a shaken expression.

— Oh-chan...
